Sarugashima!!!

Monkey Island!

There is a place in Atsugi City, in Kanagawa Prefecture…. It is along the Sagami River. It is a famous, popular spot for 4x4 drivers and off-road motorcycle riders. I think it is the best place to come and play with a dirt bike or a dual sport.

Personally, I first came across this place when I was cycling around Kanagawa. I found this place from the main road and discovered something amazing. There were stunt motorcycle riders!!! There were dirt bike riders!!! There were 4x4s!!! I was so impressed. Everyone was having a great time. For a few years after that, I really wanted to go there again but I only had a bicycle, an it was a road bike. It was not exactly suitable for off road riding. I had a BMX too but this place was too far to ride a BMX to.

When I got my CRF, my idea was to play around here and learn some off road riding techniques. I learned a lot and had a ton of fun. There is still a lot more to learn. This is the place to do it.

The concrete pad actually says “Do not enter!” so as a disclaimer, I will say that you should enter at your own risk. The reason for the message is clear. The concrete pad that a lot of people hang out on is actually a dam. If the water level gets too high, the dam overflows. That’s a dangerous situation.

There are two or three common entrances. One of them has a lot of construction going on. The truth is that you can reach anywhere from every place:

Main Entrance:

35°29'48.3"N 139°22'14.6"E

35.496735, 139.370722

Secondary Entrance:

35°31'01.7"N 139°22'13.4"E

35.517129, 139.370378
If you use this entrance, stick to the right. Follow the concrete path all the way along the river. Don’t speed. There are a lot of people fishing there and there is a risk of an accident. Mostly, you would just annoy them though.

Go! hang out! Explore. You will find a lot of exciting things to do and you can meet a lot of great people. I have met a lot of great people here.
